EMS Training

Hybrid / Online EMT Courses:

ETA offers a hybrid EMT course approved by the PA Department of Health, Bureau of EMS. Our EMT course follows the New National EMS Education Standards. In order to decrease the number of hours students are required to spend in the classroom, our course is conducted in large part online, requiring students to be in-class for only approximately 50 hours. PA DOH EMT-Refresher Course:

Course Description: This course is designed for individuals whose EMT certification has expired as well as those in need of a refresher course to meet the requirements for NREMT. It can also be taken by any EMT that wants to brush up on skills and knowledge as well as those in need of continuing education credits to maintain their certification. EMT Transition Course:

Course Description: This course is designed to transition current EMT-Basics into the newly adopted Education Standards for an Emergency Medical Technician.

Course Content: This program is designed to bridge the gap between the current EMT-Basic and the recently adopted EMS Educational Standards level provider of EMT. This course will provide a basic overview of the history of the EMS Agenda for the future and EMS Education Standards as well as the new levels of EMS providers. The focus of the course is on the new patient assessment process, more in-depth anatomy and physiology, pathophysiology of various medical conditions of illness for all body systems, and more. This course was developed and is being taught by the President of ETA and author of the EMT Transition Manual Textbook published by Jones and Bartlett Publishing, as well as an EMT-Instructor Trainer for the PA Department of Health, Bureau of EMS.

Course Length: 16- or 24-hour training which is 100% online.

Emergency Medical Responder (EMR)

Course Description: Previously referred to as First Responder, the Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) course is the first of four tiers for professional emergency personnel. The program focuses on the knowledge and skills necessary for the first person(s) on the scene of an emergency. Whether medical or trauma in nature, upon successful completion of this program, you will have the skills to adequately assess and care for a wide variety of illnesses and injuries until advanced level responders arrive. Upon successful completion of this course, participants will take the PA State Certification practical and written exam to become PA State Certified Emergency Medical Responders. Furthermore, because this is the first of 4 tiers of training, successful completion will allow the participant to take a bridge course from EMR to Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) in the future, rather than taking the entire EMT course. And with the experience of functioning as an EMR first, an EMT course will be easier to manage.

Target Audience: This course is designed for individuals that are most likely to be first to the scene of an emergency. This includes law enforcement personnel, fire fighters, rescue squad personnel, athletic trainers, industry first response personnel, camp counselors, and laypersons in general.

Certification: State certification valid for a period of 3 years. Students are also able to take the National Registry exams to become an NREMR.

Course Length: 60 hours total; only 20 hours in-class! Current CPR certification is required. Click here for CPR course dates if you are not currently certified.

Prerequisite: Professional Level CPR certification (with a minimum of 6 months left before expiration at the completion of the EMR course)
